How Important are "Listening Skills" in a mediation?
This video describes a mediators listening skills. You will hear a particular phrase that all of us use and hear everyday. It is the combination of two simple words; "Yes, but..." those two words effectively discounts or removes the validity of what ever statement or admission came before it. Dr. Hanna explains that it is an opportunity for the mediator to listen carefully to why someone is using the phrase and determine if the person intends to remove the impact of the statement and to acknowledge that the other party actually hears the exact opposite.
